Historisch gezien hoort de IPA in Engeland thuis, maar sinds de jaren '80 is dit biertype omgetoverd tot een Amerikaans stijlicoon. Bij Wentersch hebben we er onze eigen draai aan gegeven en brouwen we dit bier met lokale mout van Masterveld en hop van Hogenelst. Een echt Achterhoeks streekproduct dus! Laat je verassen door een bloemige smaak- en geurexplosie met frisse hinten van o.a. citrus en grapefruit.

Ge-eikt is een stevig en fruitig blond bier met een hoge doordrinkbaarheid en een unieke twist. Dit bier heeft tijdens de lagering gerijpt op eikenhouten chips.

Onze brouwers zijn aan de slag gegaan om voor de ware liefhebber het ultieme zwarte bier te brouwen. Deze Achterhoekse zwarte parel zit vol geroosterde tonen, denk hierbij aan koffie, pure chocolade en karamel. Een complex bier die zijn weerga niet kent.

Als ware spiritueel genezers hebben drie brouwerijen de handen ineen geslagen. 1 uit het Brabantse en 2 uit het Oosten van het land waren er nodig om dit elixer tegen zwarte magie te maken. Een Black IPA, duister als de nacht, maar heerlijk fruitig in geur en smaak. Bitter, met een zacht mondgevoel. Zoals een schaap in wolfskleren. Lichtvoetig, doch zwaar. Doordrinkbaar, maar vooral om van te genieten. Laat het u wel bevallen en lach eens goed. Denk aan iets grappigs want positieve energie verdrijft uiteindelijk het negatieve. Proost!

Bijzonder dubbelbock bier met een schitterende whiskytoets. Gebrouwen met geturfde (peated) whiskymout, net zoals de Muifel Beerskey.

0.0% alcohol - 100% La Trappe La Trappe Epos 0.0% is een fris, troebel, lichtblond trappistenbier met een royale schuimkraag. Het aroma is fruitig, kruidig en licht hoppig. De smaak wordt gekenmerkt door een aangename bitterheid en een verfrissende afdronk.

La Trappe Nillis is donker, amberkleurig trappistenbier met een gebroken witte schuimkraag. Het toegankelijke alcoholvrije trappistenbier heeft een aangename bitterheid en een ronde moutige, karamelzoete afdronk. De geur van mout en karamel vloeit samen met de frisse en fruitige aroma’s die de gist en hop voortbrengen. Bierbrouwerij de Koningshoeven brengt als eerste in de wereld een volledig alcoholvrij trappistenbier op de markt: La Trappe Nillis (0,0%). Het is gebrouwen volgens authentieke receptuur, met gebruikmaking van duurzame grondstoffen en energiebronnen. Een deel van de opbrengst gaat naar projecten die de broeders van Abdij Onze Lieve Vrouw van Koningshoeven in Oeganda ontplooien.

Our golden-yellow, alcohol-free wheat beer tastes like a premium wheat beer: tangy, fresh and full-bodied, with hints of cloves and honey as well as a fine yeasty spirit. The unique wheat beer taste is achieved by a method developed in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan: the top fermentation is not interrupted and the beer has time to mature, only after the maturation the alcohol is carefully withdrawn. It is a first-class thirst quencher after sports or a good companion to light summer dishes, sweet and sour dishes, or fruit sorbets. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Strong, Blond, Belgian. 8.5% Vol. CORNET is a blond Belgian beer with a unique taste: powerful yet soft, thanks to the addition of oak wood chips during the brewing process.

The allusion to pink elephants and the choice of names is not due to chance. With a particular character, the unique taste results from triple fermentation and the use of three different yeast strains. Sweet, biscuit malt backbone, supported by pleasant warmth and spice, finishes well rounded, floral, and dry. Color and Sight: Pale blond, the fine and regular sparkle creates a nice, stable foam head. Scent: Slightly malty, heavy touch of alcohol, spicy. Taste: A good shot of alcohol ignites in the mouth, as it were, which really warms the tongue and palate. The taste is also characterized by its roundness. The finish is strong, long and dry bitter.

Duvel is a natural beer with a subtle bitterness, a refined flavour and a distinctive hop character. The unique brewing process, which takes about 90 days, guarantees a pure character, delicate effervescence and a pleasant sweet taste of alcohol. Apart from pure spring water, which is the main ingredient of beer, barley is the most important raw material. Barley must germinate for five days in the malt house, after which malt remains. The colour of the malt and as a consequence also of the beer is determined by the temperature. Duvel obtains its typical bitterness by adding various varieties of aromatic Slovenian and Czech hops. We use only exclusive hops that are renowned for their constant, outstanding quality. Duvel ferments for the first time in tanks at 20 to 26°C. The brewer uses his own culture for this. The original yeast strain, which Victor Moortgat himself selected in the 1920’s, originates from Scotland. After maturing in storage tanks in which the beer is cooled down to -2°C, the drink is ready for bottling. Thanks to the addition of extra sugars and yeast, the beer ferments again in the bottle. This occurs in warm cellars (24°C) and takes two weeks. Then the beer is moved to cold cellars, where it continues to mature and stabilise for a further six weeks. This extra long maturation period is unique and contributes to the refined flavour and pure taste of Duvel.

Brugse Zot Dubbel is a dark brown beer, inclinging towards ruby red. It is brewed with six special varieties of malt, which give the beer a rich and distrinctive aroma. One can discover the scent of honey, almonds, chocolate and even brown sugar. By using the Czech Saaz hop from Zatec, the beer has a complex pallet of roasted malts and a distrinctive flavour. Brugse Zot Dubbel is known to leave a warm glow in the mouth with a bitter and hoppy finish leanding towards liquorice and even coffee roast. Brugse Zot Dubbel can be paired with stews, different types of cheese and desserts prepared with bittersweet dark chocolate.

Corsendonk Pater Dubbel is a soft and top-fermented dark beer, refermented and aged in bottle to a lively sparkling beer with rich foam. This beer has caramelized malt on the nose with hints of ripe fruit. Mild on the palate with wellbalanced bitterness, hints of fruit, toasted bread, liquorice, coffee and caramel.

De Gouverneur Dubbel is een ongefilterd fluweelzacht en bitterzoet bier met karakter. Het gebruik van Tettnangerhop en gebrande karamelkleurige mout zorgt voor een diepe robijnrode kleur en unieke volle smaak. We’re levelling up this DIPA with an experimental hop expansion pack. Newbies Strata and Zappa attack with a fruity onslaught of passion-fruit and strawberry and their secret weapons dank resin and mint. The high scoring combo of tropical fruit and pine is delivered super smoothly via wheat and oats. Low bitterness, a solid malt base and no-holds barred hopping leaves Arcade Made top of the leader board every time.

This is an aggressive ale. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory–maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beverage will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make things taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.

No, you're not tripping. An American IPA, double dry-hopped during mid-and-late fermentation with 4 hops - including Citra Cryo - spin out for a cloudy, chunky, citrus mouthful of hop. Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of our Carolus beers. “Hopsinjoor” derived from “Opsinjoor”, the typical character of Mechelen and also because of the use of 5 different kinds of hops. These hops are fractioned at a different time during the cooking process in order to conserve a maximum of aroma. Concerning the taste, the Ale has a gentle taste with a slightly bitter finish. Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor was launched in 2008 on the Zythos Beer Festival and hit the mark: the visitors elected it as best beer, bringing Het Anker “The Consumer’s trophy Zythos Beer Festival 2008”. The beer is bottled unfiltered in order to preserve the bitterness of the hop as much as possible.

Jopen Northsea IPA is an IPA (India Pale Ale) or, in old Dutch, a ‘Duraebel Scheepsbier’. These beers were extra strongly brewed and extra hopped so that they could be taken along on the long sea voyages to the Dutch East Indies (current-day Indonesia). Nowadays this type of beer is making a comeback because American brewers have breathed new life into this brewing style. This hoppy amber beer is named after the lake between the towns of Spaarndam and Haarlem, the Mooie Nel (literally: Beautiful Nel). The beer has received an extra hop addition to the tank after fermentation to give it a clear hop character. Silver medal winner Brussels beer Challenge 2014.

Contemporary style IPA with an Irish twist, combining the balance of European IPAs with the generous dry hopping of APAs, this beer is everything an IPA should be and more. In 2009, Robert and Anne Greta Johansen came up with the wild idea of starting a brewery in Longyearbyen. It took 6 years to change Svalbard’s alcohol law, and on the 7th of August 2015 the world’s Northermost brewery finally opened. Today the beer is enyoyed by explorers from all over the world. Combining the freshness of a Belgian Wit and the fruity hoppyness of an American IPA. Our White IPA is carefully balanced with coriander seeds, orange peel and a decent amount of hops. ?Cheers!!

Vuur & Vlam is a overly hopped beer. Yet, it's not aggressive in it's bitterness or too grassy from the hops. We mainly retrieve the fruit and floral aromas from the hops. Giving it a huge hop character with the nasty bitterness. Flavor indication: citrus, floral, light grassy, Translates as Fire & Flames.

Gouden Carolus Ambrio is aromatically brewed according to the ancient recipe of the Mechelschen Bruynen. Ambrio is an 'amber' ale brewed with 'brio'. This white beer of high fermentation finds its origin in the traditional beer of the city of Mechelen. As each city had its own typical beer, the Mechelenians drunk their amber beer: "Mechelschen Bruynen" for hundreds of years. Our brewery is the only brewery that still brews this type of beer. According to the tradition the basic recipe of this beer dates from 1421 and is therefore the oldest beer from the brewery. The current version is slightly heavier than the original and finer hopped. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical aromas with herbs ensure that this beer combines the whole-hearted nature of brown beers with the freshness of blonde beers. This flavored and spicy light brown tasting beer should be served fairly fresh. Refermentation in the bottle.

A Northern German (Friesian) Pilsener that is characteristic of the style. It is a little more hoppy than Czech pilseners giving it a more bitter ("herb" in German) flavour.

Back for another year, we bring your our annual barrel-aged Mexican Imperial Stout with the addition of cacao, vanilla, and chili peppers. Expect deep chocolate and roasted malt notes complemented by creamy vanilla sweetness. The peppers add layers of smoky, earthy, and subtle spice, balanced by the stout natural sweetness. Barrel aging introduces warmth and depth, with caramel and oak from the Bourbon barrels, subtle spice from the French Whiskey barrels, and maple syrup sweetness from the Maple barrels.

The flagship of the O’Hara’s brand, this uniquely Irish stout brings one back to how Irish stouts used to taste. First brewed in 1999, it has since been awarded prestigious honours for its quality and authenticity. O’Hara’s Irish Stout has a robust roast flavour complemented by a full-bodied and smooth mouth feel. The generous addition of Fuggle hops lends a tart bitterness to the dry espresso-like finish. This sessionable stout beer is filled with rich complex coffee aromas mingled with light liquorice notes. The combination of traditional stout hops with an extra pinch of roast barley allows us to stay true to Irish tradition, recreating a taste so often yearned for by stout drinkers.

Baltic Porter This is an incredibly rich and flavourful Baltic porter. It pour’s like the BP oil spill; thick, sticky and black. It’s a viscous mix of flavours with chocolate truffle being the dominant one. There’s burnt caramel, a hint of smoke and a nice balancing blast of port wine.

A limited edition rum and oak chip beer that weighs in at 7.4% abv. Built on a foundation of 5 specialty malts and featuring just one hop variety, it’s rich, boozy, and brings a little Caribbean flair to our craft.  The nose is a combination of rich espresso and vanilla. It’s a full-bodied expression of the style with prominent notes of dark rum, ripe forest berries, and indulgent chocolate brownies.

Ivan is a beer that hasn’t been aged in wooden barrels, earning it the title of “traitor” among the squad. Quads have always been one of our favorite styles, thanks to their rich Belgian heritage and the endless possibilities for experimentation. With this beer, we’ve gone the extra mile, crafting it to taste as if it were barrel-aged—without ever touching a barrel. How did we do it? That’s our brewer’s secret. But expect all the flavors you’d find in a bold, barrel-aged quad: hints of vanilla, smooth sweetness, and a long, syrupy finish.

Barleywine Bourbon B.A. with Licorice Roots

The result of adding American hops to a quadrupel, 10% Jopen Doubting Thomas (aka Ongelovige Thomas) is our interpretation of a quadrupel. A distinct beer with rich malt as the main flavour. The American hops gives it a fruity character. This beer is named after the apostle Thomas, who would not believe that Jesus had risen from the dead. Thomas has his name-day at the start of winter on 21 December. This reddish-brown beer is a genuine winter warmer. Surprisingly rich in flavour and ideal for sipping beside the fireplace. Believe it or not, this is a heavyweight.

Black Ryewine and Stout hybrid With Cocoa, Coffee & Vanilla spicing up the darkest nights chasing right and wrong, feels like home away from home

Farmhouse ale brewed with Buckwheat and spiced with Seeds of paradise and Saaz hops.

Verbena might not be the first thing that comes to mind as a beer ingredient, but this flavor enhancer, often used in cocktails and teas, brings a refreshing citrus-like touch to Iron Heart. This makes it the perfect addition for a summer saison. A saison, a classic beer style from southern Belgium and northern France, is known for its dry, blonde character and unique, funky aroma produced by yeast that thrives at high temperatures. Iron Heart adds an extra layer of complexity with the fresh, slightly tart notes of verbena, resulting in a bold and flavorful beer that is perfectly balanced.

Deze barrel aged versie van de Kaapse Auguste heeft op rode wijnvaten gelegen. Het basisbier is gebrouwen met heel veel perzik erin en is vernoemd naar de chef Auguste Escoffier. Hij was de geestelijk vader van ondermeer de Pêche Melba. Dat is dus de link met de perzik saison!

Saison Dupont is a world classic beer and the yardstick for one of Belgium’s most important beer styles. It is the most admired AND imitated Saison in the world. A strong, vital yeast is key to full attenuation and thus to the style. Saison Dupont is straw colored with a dense creamy head. The nose is alive, like fresh raised bread, estery with citrus and spice notes. Full-bodied and malty, it sparkles on the palate and finishes with a zesty hop and citrus attack. Incredibly compatible with food!

To drink at cellar temperature (12°C) or lightly refrigerated, as an aperitif or with dishes such as mussels, eels in a green herb sauce, asparagus, steamed dishes, grills, etc.

Amber-coloured Trappist ale with a broken white head. A lovely combination of herbal, floral and fruity aromas. La Trappe Isid’or was first brewed in 2009 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of The Koningshoeven Brewery. The harmonious taste starts off fruity and shifts to malty caramel. A perfectly balanced ale. The ale is named after Brother Isidorus, the abbey's first brewer. The aftertaste is pleasantly bitter.

A light-blond, organic, top-fermented Trappist ale with a sturdy collar. The aroma is characterised by the refreshing and fruity aromas of the yeast, combined with the flowery scent of citrus caused by the hops. Only organic ingredients were used when brewing this Skal-certified ale. The result is an accessible, refreshing and smooth Trappist ale with a pleasant bitterness and a mild, dry finish.

A characteristically Trappist ale with a warm amber colour and a cream-coloured head. The aroma is associated with clover and nuts, balanced by the sweet aromas of vanilla, raisins and banana. La Trappe Quadrupel is the heaviest of all the La Trappe Trappist ales and it is also the source for the name of this style. A full, heart-warming and intense taste. Malty with sweet tones of dates and caramel. The aftertaste is smooth and slightly bitter.

In addition, this ale has a candy-sweet and light malty character. The aftertaste is bitter and slightly dry.

NOTE: The ABV-value of this beer varies, in the United States 6.9% is used. The Orval’s brewery produces only one beer to sell, a beer with a high fermentation that continues in the bottle. It is 6.2% ABV. This beer is brewed exclusively from spring water, barley malt, hop cones, candy sugar, and yeast. The aroma and the fine taste are due more to the hop cones and the yeast than to the malt that is used. What’s special about Orval’s beer is that hops are added at two different stages of the production process. First, in the brewing room, a large quantity of very fine hops are added – this produces the famous bitter taste and is the reason why the beer keeps for a longer period of time. Later, in the storage cellars, hops are once again added. This is the so-called British “dry hopping,” which produces the delightful aroma that completely enraptures even the most carefully forewarned taster. In the tasting room, Orval’s beer and cheese make a really good pair: the unique shape of the bottle and the glass, the design of the label, the coasters and other publicity materials – it’s all a legacy from the early 1930’s.

Originally called "Spécial," Rochefort 8 dates to the mid-1950s. The name comes from the original gravity in "Belgian degrees." Deep brown color; the flavor is vigorous and complex, with firm body to support the strength. The aroma has elusive notes of fresh fruit, spice, leather, and figs. ABV 9.2 IBU 22

Zundert 10 Trappist is een quadrupel met een licht kruidige toets die onze bieren kenmerkt. Dit trappistenbier is diep roodbruin van kleur, met een mooie, licht beige, schuimkraag. De geur geeft hints van gedroogde zuidvruchten, zwoele kruiden, drop en een beetje chocolade. De smaak is vol en zacht, in balans gebracht door een mooie hopbitterheid. In de nasmaak keert de Zundertse kruidigheid subtiel terug.

Zundert Trappist is een kastanjekleurig bovengistend bier met nagisting op fles. Het bevat 8% alcohol. We hebben gekozen voor een bier dat we ‘een beetje weerbarstig’ noemen. Dat wil zeggen, Zundert Trappist is een bier dat je de tijd moet geven om daadwerkelijk te doorgronden. Ons trappistenbier heeft een veelbelovende geur met een zweem van kruiden en specerijen. In de aanzet is Zundert Trappist bloemig en iets zoet. Geef het bier wat tijd en het karakter evolueert van licht karamel naar een mooie en droge hopbitterheid. In de lange afdronk vloeien de bitters samen met een aangename kruidigheid op de achtergrond.

Corsendonk Agnus Tripel is a spicy top-fermented blond beer, also refermented in the bottle and matured into a lively sparkling beer with a spicy bouquet and hopped aftertaste.

Een bovengistend ongefilterde goudblonde 3-granen tripel met een verrassende smaak. De toevoeging van Tettnagerhop en kruiden zorgen voor een kruidige smaak met droge afdronk. Gebrouwen met traditionele lange lagering en kristalzuiver water uit eigen bron.

DAVO Roadtrip is een blonde en krachtige tripel. Het goudgele bier is zoet en verwarmend door het stevige alcoholpercentage. Het fruitige karakter maakt het bier zeer toegankelijk en gevaarlijk doordrinkbaar!

Straffe Hendrik is a Bitter Tripel Ale of 9% abv. The beer was originally from Bruges and brewed in Bruges by brewery De Halve Maan. In 1981, Henri Maes and his daughter Véronique followed the demand of the mayor and created a strong blond beer for the inauguration of the statue of Sint-Arnoldus, the saint of all beer-brewers. However, the beer became so popular, that the demand for the beer continued. It was given the name of Straffe Hendrik (Strong Hendrick), since it was a rich and strong beer. Today, Straffe Hendrik is the last authentic Tripel Ale of Bruges.

Tripel LeFort is a golden blonde beer of 8.8% ABV and sets itself apart through its crisp, fruity aroma and beautifully rounded full flavour. The top-fermenting yeast used for Tripel LeFort results in a beer with vanilla-clove aromas as well as a fruity taste of bananas and red apples. Pleasant hints of citrus, lime and roses make this into a balanced beer that is intriguingly complex at the same time.

Onze vertrouwde Turf ‘n Surf werd altijd al gebrouwen met gerookte mout en zeezout maar om deze tripel nog een extra kick te geven hebben we bij deze limited edition ook nog eens geturfde whisky toegevoegd. Dit zorgt voor een extra laag diepte en complexiteit van warme, rokerige whiskytonen.

Based on german tradisions of mixing at least 50% wheat to barley malt, this is a light colored top-fermented beer. Adding to the ancient wheat beer tradision, it makes sense to use ancient glacier water from Borgarbreen. "In 1933 Wanny Voldstad from Tromsø became the first female trapper to stay the winter at Svalbard. She went of to Hornsund with the trapper Anders Sæterdal, and the winter after even her two teenage sons joined them."

Imperial Weizen. Or a barley wine made with 50% wheat and an original Weizen yeast....a Weizenwein! Silky smooth, dangerously drinkable. Ganz toll!

A full-bodied, Amsterdam wheat beer that is dangerously ‘moreish’. Slightly cloudy, it has a beautiful golden colour and a soft, foamy head. The wheat malt gives the beer a delightful, fresh flavour, and the addition of coriander and lemon during the brewing process produces a rich aroma of banana, citrus and spices. Topped off by a fine, slightly sweet aftertaste, IJwit is a delicious thirst-quencher.

Duchesse de Bourgogne from Brouwerij Verhaeghe is the traditional Flemish red ale. This refreshing ale is matured in oak casks; smooth with a rich texture and interplay of passion fruit, and chocolate, and a long, dry and acidic finish. After the first and secondary fermentation, the beer goes for maturation into the oak barrels for 18 months. The final product is a blend of younger 8 months old beer with 18 months old beer. The average age of the Duchesse de Bourgogne before being bottled is 12 months.

Formerly known as Liefmans Kriek and Cuvée - Brut. This classy beer represents the perfect marriage between the fresh accents and slightly acidic flavour of the black cherries. Liefmans Kriek-Brut is a mixed fermentation beer, with every hectolitre containing up to 13 kilos of fruit! Liefmans Kriek-Brut is a perfect blend of Oud Bruin and Goudenband from different vintages, and can consist of between 15 and 20 different batches of beers. The beer is matured for 18 months, bringing out the very best of its intense flavour. Liefmans Kriek-Brut is a deep reddish-brown colour, with a pale head and wood and almond notes. On the palette, you can clearly taste the slightly sweet, yet at the same time gently bitter fruit flavours. This is a beer that just oozes class…

Oerbier Special Reserva, 1 year on Amarone barrels.

Oude Geuze Boon is a monument of taste with an alcohol content of 7%. It’s a magnificent blend of 90% mild 18 month-old lambic, 5% strong 3 year-old beer and 5% very young lambic, which provides fermentable sugars and wild yeasts. All our beers are aged in oak casks, mixed in a vessel of 25,000 litres and chilled. Before bottling, we bring the mix to fermentation temperature. The bottles are then placed in an air-conditioned room, which leads to a secondary fermentation in the bottle. This is when the lambic becomes gueuze. After several months of aging in the bottle, the gueuze develops its delicate flavour. Want to know the bottling date? Simply subtract 20 years from the “best before” date! Taste carefully and you will uncover a fruity grapefruit and ginger flavour with a hint of Muscat grapes. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the wholehearted body and the sublime finish – an explosion of Germanic and Romance cultures.

Again, the basic old and young lambic are matured in oak casks. But here we add to one year-old lambic about 400 grams of real cherries per litre. This creates a second fermentation in the casks. Oude Kriek Boon then undergoes a further fermentation in the bottle and has an alcohol volume of 6.5%. After several months, the flavour has matured to the desired taste. Oude Kriek Boon is a test of your patience. It should lie about 2 years in the bottle. At first, it tastes of fruit, especially sour cherries. Oude Kriek Boon eventually evolves into a deep taste reminiscent of Port or Madeira wine. This is kriek at its best.

This is an aged Belgian red ale, which is ‘ripened quietly in oak barrels for two years’, according to the label. It has an extremely pungent aroma of rich grapey fruit, with acidic notes, very much like a slightly sour red wine or possibly a gueuze. In the mouth it is slightly sweet, extremely acidic and fruity, with grapes and even cherries discernible, and very lively. Despite the sweetness it is not at all cloying, even thin, with little or no trace of malt. Finish is sharp and fruity.

Lambicus Faro is a historical Brussels beer. Candy sugar is delicately added to a traditional barrel-aged lambic, giving a sweeter note with apples aromas.

To make the best lemonade when life gives you lemons, and most importantly: to be able to twerk in the moshpit called life. Ahhh who are we kidding with this garbage and nonsense, we just saw one our chefs twerk his ass of in a moshpit at a metal festival and decided that epic performance was worthy of it's own beer name. Life might not be all rainbows and unicorns, this double oat cream mango and coconut lassi pastry sour certainly is.

Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "VanderGhinste Roodbruin". The main ingredients of our Vanderghinste Oud Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

1894, brewed at first to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the brewery, is an audacious combination of a hoppy tripel and 2-year oak aged uncut sour beer, refermented in the bottle. Omdat het precies 25 jaar geleden is dat onder impuls van Marc Gallant, de laatste abt van De Achelse Kluis (1995-2006), werd besloten om de abdijbrouwerij nieuw leven in te blazen, komt er in een beperkte oplage een feestelijk jubileumbier op de markt: 'Achel Gallant - Jubileum', een blond speciaalbier met 9,5% alcoholvolume en afgesloten met een speciale kurk. Dit bier wordt gebrouwen met drie natuurlijke granen - gerst, tarwe en haver - en verrijkt met paarse heidebloemen, die welig bloeien in het natuurgrenspark De Groote Heide, waarvan De Achelse Kluis de toegangspoort vormt. Dit resulteert in een volmondige en eigenzinnige smaak met een zachte bittere afdronk.

Margaretha, de 10de smaakexpressie onder dit label, is een rood bier van 8,5% vol. waarvan de essentie draait om het delicate evenwicht tussen zuur en zoet. Door het samenvoegen van bruin en Vlaams roodbruin bier, creëren we een unieke smaakcombinatie waarin donkere chocolade en rijp fruit samengaan met een subtiel zure afdronk. Na maanden lange lagering op krieken bereiken we extra smaakdiepte. Met deze jubileumuitgave vieren we niet alleen een mijlpaal, maar brengen we ook kleur en smaak samen in een meesterlijke harmonie.

Straffe Hendrik Heritage is a special variety of the Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, as it a one year oak barrel aged beer. The beer is brewed in autum and is only available in a limited edition. The taste and fragrance of the beer are very complex and evolve through the years. The tannin from the barrels blends exquisitely with the special malts in the beer. The combination of the spiciness and bitterness of the quadrupel with the subtle taste of wine and wood from the barrels is inimitable. Licorice and dark fruits like raisins, prunes and figs can also be discovered. With age the beer will develop a hint of porto as well.

The appearance of this exceptional beer is matched only by its taste! To make our Framboise, we add raspberry juice to our lambic. That gives it a delicate fruity aroma and a beautiful dark pink colour, just like the dress I wore to our cousin Willy's wedding. (But that's of no interest to you since you undoubtedly don't know Willy). Framboise is served as an aperitif, but I also use it in cooking. And when I don't finish the bottle in my preparations, I finish it in my glass.
